The Cane Creek VALT Springs are designed to significantly enhance your shock's performance by offering a premium alternative to standard steel springs. VALT springs provide a notable weight reduction, allowing riders to enjoy the performance benefits of coil shocks without the typical weight penalty.
Cane Creek offers both Linear and Progressive Rate VALT Springs to suit diverse rider preferences and frame designs.
Progressive-Rate VALT coil springs are meticulously designed and tuned by Cane Creek’s engineering team to deliver a true rise-in-rate spring curve. These springs maintain the sensitivity and "set it and forget it" simplicity of a traditional coil setup, while providing the progressive ramp-up demanded by aggressive riders and many modern frame designs. The progression in these springs begins at 50% into the stroke. Their rate increases are proportional to a DB Kitsuma Air air spring with one volume spacer installed. Progressive springs are recommended for bikes that normally use air shocks, or if you desire more ramping end-stroke support.
Linear VALT springs are ideal for bikes that readily accept coil shocks, or for riders who prefer a maximum ground-hugging feel. For all Cane Creek TiGONS, a linear (black) spring should be chosen, as progression is handled by the Ramp Tube.
All VALT springs are compatible with ALL Cane Creek Coil Shocks.
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR VALT SPRING
1-Select Spring Length:
Choose a spring length that is equal to, or slightly greater than, your shock's stroke.
Example: For a shock size of 185 x 55 (where 55 is the shock stroke), select a spring length of 57mm or greater.
2-Calculate Spring Rate: Use the following formula:
(Rear Wheel Travel ÷ Shock Stroke) × Rider Weight (fully dressed & outfitted) = Spring Rate
Example: (150mm rear wheel travel ÷ 55mm shock stroke) × 160lbs rider weight = 436 lbs Spring Rate
3-Round Down to Nearest VALT Spring Rate:
If your calculated spring rate is 436 lbs, select a 400lb VALT spring.
Example: Choose a 57mm x 400lb spring.
4-Progressive or Linear?:
Choose 'linear' for bikes that accept coil shocks, or if you want maximum ground-hugging feel.
Choose 'progressive' for bikes that normally use air shocks, or if you want more ramping end-stroke support.
For ALL TiGONS: choose a linear (black) spring. Progression is handled by Ramp Tube.
